Chin/Cheek Implants

Chin and cheek implants change the shape and balance of the face, giving you the proportion and profile you want. Implants can strengthen a receding chin, add prominence to cheekbones or reshape the jaw line.

Procedure: Half an hour to 2 hours in surgery. Incisions inside the mouth or under the jaw or chin create the space for positioning and supporting your implants. Click here for procedural renderings.

Anesthesia: Usually local, with or without sedation, though general anesthesia may be recommended.

Length of Stay: Plan to stay at the Cosmetic Surgery Center for about half a day.

What to Expect: Oral medication relieves initial discomfort of swelling and tenderness. Bruising, numbness and stiffness will subside over a week or two. With jaw implants, an inability to fully open the jaw may last several weeks. The final results will be evident when swelling subsides completely in 1-2 months.

Resuming activity: Most patients return to work in about a week. Avoid jarring or bumping implants for 6 weeks or more.

Duration of results: Permanent.

Risks: Bleeding, infection around implant requiring a second surgery or removal of implant, shifting or poor positioning of the implant, poor healing, or scar tissue around the implant can harden in an unnatural shape. All surgeries carry risks associated with anesthesia.
